Death to cables and wires!

I HATE CABLES! nobody likes them. I can’t say that I’ve ever heard anyone say “wow that spaghetti junction really adds a lot of charm to your work space”, and i’m confident I never will.

After years of trying to tame disgraced and neglected office wiring closets, I stumbled on the 7th wonder of the wiring world from Monoprice. Obviously the Monoprice cables ties i’m speaking of weren’t the first “hook and loop” (Can’t use the name that rhymes with “Smell Crow” without shelling out some benjamins) type organizers I had ever encountered. Yet for some reason founded in subconscious self-hatred, I mostly relied on scavenged twist ties to organize cable bundles. The occasional zip tie did work it’s way into my repertoire, but I hated the permanence of them. Decide to change the slightest thing and you have to cut it off, waste a tie and start again…and if you forgot to bring something to cut them with…you’re out of luck.

You can do better than twist/zip ties

One fine day, I decided to find a better solution. One that was reusable, cheap, and easy to order in relatively large quantities. It did take a bit of searching. you could waste a lot of money on over engineered solutions that come with multiple pieces and plastic doodads that just make them more expensive. Or you could go the other way, and opt for a massive roll of hook and loop material…that you have to measure, cut, and then find a way to wrap it tightly around itself.

The form factor found in the ties from Monoprice fit my needs perfectly. They come in 3 different lengths, are fairly inexpensive, and can be ordered in packs from 10 -120. Better yet, the wide end has a hole in it for sliding the other end through and clamping down as tight as you’d like. Simple, easy, cheap, I love them. I use them in data-center environments, wiring closets, and on my desk at home. Do yourself a favor and stop recycling twist ties.
